Our Distinctives

Christ put it in no uncertain terms: “I will build my church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it” (). Through the ages, Christ has sovereignly overseen the construction of His church. As He leads, we are committed to growing His church through the following Biblical distinctives:

Exalting Christ

Christ is the center of God’s program (). We will uphold God’s central purpose and pleasure of glorifying Christ () and keeping Him central. This will reflect in our worship service, in the Bible studies, and in our fellowships. He is the All in All. He is Almighty God. He is Sovereign, the creator of all things. He holds all things together. He is our Savior, our King, our Brother, our Friend.

Spirit Empowered Preaching

Spirit empowered preaching means explaining the living word by the power of the Spirit and allowing Him to stir His people to action (). Christ said He will send another Helper Who will bring to remembrance all He said to us (). The theme of each sermon will center on Christ: His glorious work on the cross and His transforming grace. We trust His Spirit to take this truth and fill His people to live powerfully for Him in every area of life: in marriage, in parenting, in ministry, at work, or at school.

Edifying the Body of Christ

Edifying the body of Christ comes through teaching the word through interpersonal ministries like small group Bible studies and discipleship. God’s goal is “for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ…” (). Jesus said “go therefore and make disciples of all nations…teaching them to observe all that I commanded you” (). We are committed to building up the body of Christ so as to produce mature believers who can build up others also ().

Evangelism to the World

Evangelism to the world simply means telling your neighbor Who Christ is and what He has done in gracing you with eternal life. Jesus tells us to “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation” (). This is the Gospel: “that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures” (). God is using His church to gather His worshipers.

Christ is building His church. Peter reveals the rock on which Christ builds His church in saying: “You (Jesus) are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (). He is the Head of the church. He died for her sins and gives her new life. He is her worship focus, her mighty counselor, her prince of peace. He is also coming again.

And again, when he brings the firstborn into the world, he says,

“Let all God’s angels worship him.” (ESV)

because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake.
